Plover Spuds on Snow

Next Meeting November 11th, 2009
Presidents Update:
Wow is time flying, it won't be long and we'll be out on the snow enjoying the sport of snowmobiling. The weather once again wasn't the best during our swap meet along with the turn out. There was 3 sleds sold which is good considering the attendance. I would like to thank everyone for taking time out of there busy schedules to come out and help the cause and Smileys for the use of there facilitiy. This was not a big money maker for us and we will be discussing at this months meeting some new ideas on how to make it better or come up with another form of fund raising.
I would like to thank Brian for all his efforts staying on top of the Smiley's trail. We will be discussing this further at the November meeting. Please read the attached email Brian sent and come to the meeting with your thoughts. The cost to get this plan off the ground is pretty high. Time is working against us now and I would like to have a direction at the November 11th meeting.
Spuds
Just an update on the progress (or rather the lack of) concerning the Plover Trail from Del Monte to the Elizabeth Inn.
I talked with Steve of the Highway Department several week ago. He was OK with the trail long as it wasn't on the bike path.*** (WE HAVE SINCE GOTTEN PERMISSION TO USE THE BIKE PATH)
Initially I thought if Del Monte took out their sprinkler heads on the west side of the trail, it could work. . I took a look on Saturday, and I doubt the sprinkler heads will be taken out. There isn't room on either side of the bike path to run the trails. I check with Dan Bemowski of the Arnott Club. He confirmed that last year the trail was on the bike path. I called Steve earlier this week, but he has yet to return my call. I will try again on Friday.
Del Monte gave us an OK to cross their property. That gets us to Kennedy Funding. I was given the contact name of Stephen Bienko from Larry Szrypkowski . I called NJ, but had to leave a message. No return call. I went on their website, and set an email to Stephen Bienko. I have yet to get a return email. On Friday I will fax my email to Kennedy Funding. I talked with Larry (Smiley's) on Saturday, and explained the situation. He said he had to talk to Kennedy Funding this week, and would try to get us an answer. I will fax my email access request to Kennedy Funding on Friday. I also talked with Larry about Don Hammerski's property. We should be OK here. We can run the trail out to Harding Avenue. That gets us to trail signage. I have information from both Scenic Sign (on-line) and Rent-A-Flash. Keep in mind that we inherited the trail, but not the signs. A very rough estimate is that it could cost us this year to $500.00 to sign the trail. 12 x 12 yellow informational signs cost an average of $5.55 each. Initial count was that we would need about 22 of these signs (Stop Ahead, Yield, Chevrons, Right Turn, Left Turn, Intersection, S-Turn, and 2-Way) Stop signs run about $5.70 each. We would need 6. 6 X 6 double-sided Blazers (depending on thickness .040 or 080.) cost either $3.50 or $3.70 each. Rough estimate is we need 56. That's a pair of blazers every tenth of a mile.
The we get to the 3/4" x 10' conduit. We would need 34. The cost is $2.87 each at both Fleet Farm and Menards.
Stainless Steel hardware could add another $110.00. I didn't check the exact price. When I talked with Almond Club (Kate & Jim Drmolka), they may be willing to annex this portion of trail. Then we wouldn't have to get our own insurance. Grooming would cost about $65.00 per hour. Chuck Kowelski normally goes from the Multi-Purpose trail
to the Elizabeth Inn and back. Figure on hour once a week depending on snow. Marty Wacker of the Portage County Parks Department says 1.1 mile of the trail is funded. Figure $250.00. Marty may have some options on some additional funding. This is would go to the Almond Club, but would help with grooming costs
That's where I’am at. We can further discuss at this Wednesday's meeting.
As you can see this would be a big venture. This will be our primary discussion at the November meeting. We will also be locking into our club ride plans for this upcoming season and time permitting I would like Sheryl to share her ideas on SOS logoed clothing also.
