United We Trail – Divided We Fail

November 10, 2007

Next regular membership meeting is Wednesday November 14, 2007 7:00 @ Smiley’s.

Office of Treasurer has been filled

I want to thank Deb Berholtz for volunteering to accept the position of Treasurer for the Plover Spuds on Snow.  Once we get the signature card updated, we can officially transfer the responsibilities to Deb.  Gina has graciously volunteered to help Deb get familiar with the duties of the position.

Club Outing

We need to decide at the November meeting on the date for the club outing. With the assumption that there will be sufficient snow, we previously decided to have the outing at the Birches Resort on Boot Lake in Springstead.  Gina Taylor, one of our already “up north” members, will be in contact with the Birches to coordinate the event.  Each member would still be responsible for booking their own lodging.  This is the same place as last year, and it worked out well for our members.  The Birches’ website is www.birchesresort.com

PSOS Swap Meet/CWSS Swap Meet/Vintage Snowmobile Show

Special thanks to PSOS member Rob Sparhawk for coordinating the first Vintage Snowmobile Show at the Central Wisconsin Snow Show (CWSS).  Based on Rob’s predication for vintage participants, it was a great success.  Rob had hoped to attract at least 50 participants, and I believe the count was around 60.  First Place and Second Place Prizes were awarded in each of the divisions.  In addition there was a Best of Show Award.

Thanks to all our club members that helped at either and/or both the PSOS Swap Meet at Smiley’s and the PSOS Swap Meet at the CWSS.  There were many familiar faces that helped at both swap meets.  Thanks for your efforts.  These events don’t happen without the dedication and commitment of our members.

When you accept the fact that the PSOS snowmobile club has no trails, there is little responsibility in preparing and maintaining the trails.  We rely 100% on the efforts of our neighboring clubs.  Would it make sense to make a donation to each of the clubs that are responsible in some part for the trails in Plover?  Each donation would be based on how many miles and how much work is involved in preparing and maintain each of the trails.

I would ask that you read the “Making Tracks” article on page 12 of the October 2007 edition of the Wisconsin Snowmobile News (WSN) on the BlueRibbon Coalition (BRC).  The BRC exists to support your right to enjoy responsible recreation on public lands.  As a member of a Wisconsin Snowmobile club, you are eligible for a half price annual membership costing just $10.  That’s right, a mere $10 to put your support behind keeping public lands open for recreation and helping ensure that you’ll have places to ride your sled in the future.  Think of it as an investment in the future of snowmobiling, which it truly is.
