United We Trail – Divided We Fail

April 5, 2009

Next Membership Meeting is April 8, 2009 7:00 @ Smiley’s.

Elections

We have accepted nominations for officers at the February and March meetings.  The installation of officers will take place at the April meeting.  To date the following Spuds have accepted their nomination for the following positions:

                Vice President                       Rick Rossier

                Treasurer                               Deb Berkholtz

                Secretary                               Trish Bey

                Director – 3                           Mark Paul

Currently Eric Liazuk has two years remaining on his Director position and John Herek has one (1) year remaining on his Director position.  Dave Kreutzer has completed his 3 year tenure as a Director.

At the March meeting Eric Liazuk was nominated for President.  It should be noted that Eric was not in attendance at this meeting, so he has yet to accept or decline this nomination.  Prior to the election of officers, we will again address our options on nominations for President of the Plover Spuds on Snow.

Audit

“The Board of Directors shall act as an auditing committee and shall audit the financial books of the treasurer and report the results of such audit at the next regular membership meeting prior to the election of officers”.  This was discussed at the February and March meetings.  I believe the audit of our books will have been completed by the April meeting.

Summer Campout @ Vista Royale in Bancroft

For those club members that are interested in camping, the PSOS have held a campout for the last several years at Vista Royale in Bancroft.  We again have plans to be at Vista Royale the weekend of June 19-21 (Father’s Day Weekend).  In the past, this has been an excellent time for club members to get together and relax.  We need to finalize the details at the April and May general membership meetings.   Please call Brian or Diane Fitzpatrick @ 341-0601 for details.

Plover Trail to Smiley’s and the Elizabeth Inn

I received an email on April 2, 2009 from Dan Bemowski of the Arnott Area Start Riders that reads:

I am writing to inform you that the Arnott Area Star Riders are abandoning

the Plover Trail.  Due to the added responsibility given to our club for next

season, we will no longer be marking, grooming, or maintaining the trail from

the Highway B railroad grade/ railroad tracks south to the Elizabeth Inn.  We

will still claim ownership of the trail from the Plover railroad crossing access

            East to the state corridor.

If the Plover Spuds on Snow Snowmobile club would like to pick up the

responsibilities of this trail, the Arnott Area Star Riders have voted to allow this.

If the Plover Spuds on Snow agree to pick up this trail, they will need to purchase

all the needed signs and arrange for grooming.  You will need to acquire the annual landowner permission.

As of today’s meeting and once we pick up all our signs, then that trail no longer exists.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need a clarification.

This does not come as a total surprise.  I believe Arnott has normally contracted Almond to do the grooming.  This is only a club trail, so there is no state funding available.  I actually think that as a snowmobile club, it a benefit to now have some portion of a trail that we are responsible for maintaining.  The Plover Spuds on Snow would be financially responsible for maintaining this trail.   At this time I am unsure if either Smiley’s or the Elizabeth Inn shared in any of the financial costs associated with maintaining this trail. .

I will contact Dan before our Wednesday meeting for a clarification of details.

Time for a Change

This will be my last meeting as President of the Spuds.  I have served as President for the last four years, and prior to that was Vice-President for three years.  Last year I agreed to be President for one more year.  In recent months my job has required more of my time.

This will also be my last newsletter.  I will be willing to provide the new President with assistance during the transition.  I will continue to be involved with the activities of the Spuds.

Thanks to all our members for their support over the last seven years.
