United We Trail – Divided We Fail

December 31, 2007

Next regular membership meeting is Wednesday January 9, 2008

7:00 p.m.  @ Smiley’s.

Club Outings (2)

Here is the information on the two snowmobile club trips for 2008.  While we have requested rooms be blocked for a short time, each family or individual needs to make their own reservations.  At the last meeting several people indicated they would like to go back to the Pine Ridge of Wautoma, in addition to an "up North" club trip.

Please indicate when you call you are part of the Plover SOS Snowmobile club.  They will hopefully keep all of our rooms together if they know this.

For those that want to make reservations for a room in the lodge at the Pine Ridge of Wautoma (in Wautoma, WI):

For those that want to make reservations for a motel room at Holiday Acres (which is located on Thompson Lake in Rhinelander, WI):

Since this looks like it may be a good year, if you are interested in either or both trips, call and make reservations soon.

Trail Coordinator

With all the snow we received recently, the opportunity to put on some local miles was a welcome change.  The local miles did give our members some insight into local trail markings and signage.  Some of the intersection marking was lacking as to which direction to go.

With the 15 corridor being moved to just west of Arnott, there was confusion as to the proper way to get to Smiley’s if you were coming from the south or west.  The majority of local people still ran the old route by crossing highway 54 by the Shell station.

Officially there is no trail that crosses highway 54 at this intersection.

We may need to give consideration to a club position that works with local businesses to insure there is proper signage identifying their business along the trail.

Club Ride at January 9th meeting

The high temperatures this weekend are supposed to be near 40 degrees.  If the warm weather doesn’t deteriorate the trails and the roads too much, there will be a club ride for those interested in riding.  It would be a plus to gas your sled before the meeting.

2008-2009 Elections

Now is the time to give some thought to your interest in becoming and/or remaining a club officer.  Elections are still several months away, but at least we need to start thinking and talking about it.  Per our by-laws the election of officers is to take place at the regular membership meeting in March.  These officers would then be installed at the April meeting.   We will start accepting nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one Board of Director position at the January meeting.

There was some interest expressed in Plover Spuds on Snow clothing.  I would suggest visiting the MADA Embroidery website www.madacustom.com to see a listing of their products.  Their telephone number is (715) 341-1773 and they are located at 3100 Minnesota Ave. in Stevens Point.  They should be able to make whatever you choose.

American Council of Snowmobile Associations 2008 Raffle Calendars are available for the low cost of $20.00.  You have 365 chances to win.  Requests for calendars will be

taken at the January meeting.
