February 4, 2009
Next Membership Meeting is Wednesday February 11, 2009 at
7:00 @ Smiley’s.
February “Up North” Club Outing
The February 20-22 outing is
at the Rodeway Inn & Suites in Tomahawk
(715-453-8900) or choicehotels.com – then Tomahawk, WI.
Diane Fitzpatrick sent out a separate email on December 2 with all the
specifics. You can call her at 341-0601
(home) if you have questions or need more information. We will finalize the details of the Tomahawk
outing at the February meeting. As of
the January meeting attendance only two (2) families had confirmed
reservations. Hopefully the number has grown since then. This is an excellent opportunity to get
together with our other club members.
If Trish can give us an update of who has blocked rooms and plans on
attending, we can coordinate who is riding on Friday and Saturday. I would strongly suggest that if you plan on
making the February outing, that you reserve your room without any additional
delay.
Elections
We will be accepting officer
nominations for Plover Spuds on Snow at the February and March meetings. The offices to be filled include President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and
Current Officers are:

Bey

Kreutzer

Director – 3 Eric Liazuk
The
election of officers will be held at the regular meeting in March. Newly elected officers will be installed at
the April meeting.
Audit
The
Board of Directors shall act as an auditing committee and shall audit the
financial books of the treasurer and report the results of such audit at the
next regular membership meeting prior to the election of officers. We can discuss exactly when and how we want
to handle this.
Yellowstone
Still
sledding after all these years. After a
three year planning process, its déjà vu all over again as federal courts in DC
and Wyoming are both ruling in simultaneous lawsuits challenging the excess,
and inadequacy, of snowmobiling allowed under the new Park Service Rule. The Wyoming court has acted most recently,
ordering the Parks to reinstate the 2004 “interim rule” which allows for daily
entry up to 720 commercially-guided “best available technology” sleds. BRC has been and remains a party to all
these cases with its partners ISMA and ACSA.
Alliance of Portage
County Snowmobile Clubs
The AWSC is coordinating the
development of a statewide Snow Emergency Response Team or network. Each club is asked to provide one or two
names with phone numbers to act as contacts in the event of a snow
emergency.
Thursday March 26th
will be the Snowmobile Day at the Capitol.
There will be free buses going to Madison that day. If you are interested contact Brian Swan. The AWSC wants a strong showing to let
legislators see the solidarity of the organization.
The AWSC scholarship
application deadline is February 13th. The applications are available on line.
